In 1954 she joined the Longyan Hanju Opera Troupe and studied under Hanju artists including Wang Yulan, Li Fengqun and Huang Saiyu, specializing in qingyi roles and also performing xiaosheng (young male) and daomadan (martial female) roles.
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Female, Han ethnicity, born in August 1936 in Meizhou, Guangdong Province. She is an expert receiving the special government allowance of the State Council. Her singing is graceful and mellifluous and has formed a style and character of its own, earning her the name Golden Voice; her nuanced and vivid characterization has won her the title Queen of Hanju Opera. Her representative works include Chen Kema, Baili Xi Ren Qi (Baili Xi Recognizes His Wife), Chun Niang Qu (Song of Chun Niang), Xixiang Ji (Romance of the Western Chamber) and Qin Xianglian, among others.
Honors & Recognition
She is a national representative bearer of Minxihan Opera, a third-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. She has received the performer award at the first Wuyi Spring Concert of Fujian Province, first prize at the Fujian provincial joint performance of arias from major local opera genres, the outstanding actor award at the seventeenth Fujian provincial drama festival, the coaching award at the first Fujian provincial competition for young and middle-aged actors, and the outstanding coaching award at the Narcissus Drama Newcomer competition, among other honors. To train reserve talent for Minxihan Opera, she began teaching in 1984 in the Longyan opera class of the Fujian Provincial Art School, where she trained a large number of actors who have become the backbone of the transmission of Minxihan Opera.
