自幼随父学艺，1942年登台演出，1950年在镇江金星扬剧团主攻花旦。
1960年参加中国文学艺术工作者第三次代表大会。

国家一级演员。
在金运贵大师所唱“生调梳妆台”的基础上大胆创新，创造出了“金调梳妆台”女腔，使“自由调”得以进一步发展。
1959年进京演出《挑女婿》，受到党和国家领导人接见。
20世纪70年代曾到江都县（今扬州市江都区）进行扬剧教学，1982年在镇江市扬剧团担任教师，1992年起在江苏省戏剧学校镇江扬剧班任教三年。
代表作有《红霞》《借子》《红色家谱》《僧尼下山》《重台别》《挑女婿》等剧目。

女，汉族，1933年2月生，2018年10月去世，江苏省镇江市人。
第三批国家级非物质文化遗产项目扬剧代表性传承人。
