Female, Han ethnicity, born in July 1954, a native of Hequ County, Shanxi Province. At 14 she joined her village's small opera troupe, and at 16 she was selected for the Hequ County Troupe. She received guidance from such renowned teachers as Lü Guiying, Ren Aiying, and Han Yunde, systematically studying the fundamentals of song, dance, and dramatic performance, and gradually grew into a leading actress of the troupe. At 17 she appeared in Hong Sao (The Red Detachment Sister) and rose to fame overnight. Her singing is round, high, and moving, while her acting is refined and poised; she fuses the fundamentals of song and dance with those of drama to form a style of her own. Her representative works include Da Yingtao (Picking Cherries), Gu Sao Tiao Cai (Sister-in-Law and Sister Picking Vegetables), Gua Fu Shang Fen (The Widow Visits the Grave), Tan Bing (Visiting the Sick), Bai Da Nian (New Year Greetings), and Zou Xikou (Heading Beyond the Pass). In 1985 she was transferred to the Hequ County Cultural Center, where she took sole charge of training in folk song and errentai. Over the decades she has passed on errentai skills to more than a hundred performers and amateur enthusiasts. In recent years she has also formed an amateur errentai troupe to promote and transmit the art.
