She studied under such renowned artists as Zhou Juying, Qiu Peinan and Wu Danping, and later became a disciple of the celebrated Xiju performing artist Wang Lanying.
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Born in August 1946, she is a woman of Han ethnicity from Jingjiang City, Jiangsu Province. She is an expert entitled to the special government allowance of the State Council. She specializes in the dan (female) roles; her voice is clear, bright and broad, with full resonance, and her distinctive phrasing, which carries strong artistic appeal, is known as the Nipai vocal style. Her representative plays include The Double Millstone (Shuang Tui Mo), The Women's Militia on the Island (Hai Dao Nü Min Bing), Shajiabang (Sha Jia Bang), Red Seeds (Hong Se de Zhong Zi), Liu Hulan (Liu Hu Lan), Lady Meng Jiang (Meng Jiang Nü), Embroidering the Pouch (Xiu He Bao), The Jade Dragonfly (Yu Qing Ting), Record of the Southward Return (Nan Gui Ji) and The Pearl Pagoda (Zhen Zhu Ta).
Honors & Recognition
She is a representative bearer of Xiju opera, a third-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. Her production The Exquisite Girl (Ling Long Nü) won first prize at the national opera television drama competition, and she herself received the title of best actress. She has also received the Tenth China Drama Plum Blossom Award and the Outstanding Performance Award of the China Theatre Festival, among other honors. Her performing activities have taken her to many places, and some of the students she trained have won the China Drama Plum Blossom Award, while most have grown into leading performers of their respective troupes.
