She was born into a family of opera performers and studied under Guan Hongxiang.

Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Born in May 1945 in Changde County, Hunan Province, she is of Han ethnicity. She holds the rank of a national second-class director. Every year she takes part in Changde Huagu Opera showcase events and in benefit performances that bring opera to rural villages. Her productions The Death of You Erjie, Pan Jinlian Cuts Cloth and Picking Mushrooms have been videotaped and archived by the Chinese National Academy of Arts. Between 2013 and 2015 she revived several full-length traditional Huagu Opera productions and appeared in them at numerous showcase performances.

Honors & Recognition

She is a national representative bearer of Huagu Opera, a third-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. She began studying opera at the age of seven and toured with a company while still a child; by fourteen she was a leading performer, and at sixteen she began also serving as a director. She has played the leading role in more than one hundred productions and has repeatedly won provincial and municipal awards for outstanding young performers. At the Dingcheng District Huagu Opera Protection Centre she teaches and transmits the three major vocal systems of Changde Huagu Opera. In 2017 she completed a rescue recording project for national representative bearers of intangible cultural heritage.
