Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Female, Han ethnicity, born in August 1937, a native of Wanxian County, Sichuan Province (now Wanzhou District, Chongqing). A national second-class actor. Her singing is graceful and her pronunciation clear and round, and she has a fluent command of the 'nine beats and thirteen tunes' of traditional Sichuan zhuqin. She innovated both singing and performance, changing seated singing into walking singing with acting, adding folk instrumental accompaniment to what had been a solo performance, and reforming the zhuqin instrument so that it can serve both as a percussion accompaniment and as a stage prop. She renewed the art of zhuqin in an all-round way, raising Sichuan zhuqin to a new artistic height. Her representative works include Hua Ziliang Chuanqi (The Legend of Hua Ziliang), Shuangqiang Laotaipo (The Old Woman with Two Guns) and Bazhen Tu (The Eight Trigrams Formation); of these, The Legend of Hua Ziliang was recorded in 1987 and broadcast on Sichuan People's Radio and China National Radio, to wide effect.
