From the age of 11 he studied under the local daoqing artists Wu Jiumei and Ye Yingmei.

Male, Han ethnicity, born in June 1947, a native of Yiwu County, Zhejiang Province. An associate research curator. The daoqing lyrics he sings are fluent and his characterization meticulous; in particular, he produces a resonant sound by combining the yugu drum with vocal mimicry, a feat that has become his signature turn, and when he performed Di Qing Biwu (Di Qing Tests His Skill) in Beijing the audience was electrified by this technique. In sixty years of practice he has devoted himself to performing, collating and transmitting Jinhua daoqing and to training successors; he has collated the traditional daoqing pieces Shuang Yu Qiu (The Twin Jade Balls), Yu Lianhuan (The Jade Chain), Qixing Jian (The Seven-Star Sword) and Longfeng Yuhuan (The Dragon-and-Phoenix Jade Ring), among others. Traditional pieces such as Baxian Bainian (The Eight Immortals Pay New Year Calls), Shi Bei Xiang Cha (Ten Cups of Fragrant Tea) and Xiao Baxian (The Little Eight Immortals) have also been recorded and published. His own compositions, including Gandong Zhongguo de Yiwu Ren (Yiwu People Who Moved China) and Cimu Qing (A Mother's Love), have appeared in the magazine Quyi.
Honors & Recognition
He is a national representative bearer of Jinhua daoqing, a third-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. In December 2004 he received the title of Artist of Both Virtue and Artistry from the China Quyi Artists Association.
