Male, of the Uyghur ethnic group, born in 1957, a native of Hotan, Xinjiang. A national representative bearer of the Uyghur Huazhanyinhuabuzhiranjiyi, a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He began learning the craft of huazhan felt-making in 1975 and is now a leading master of folk felt-making in the Xinjiang region. The designs and varieties he creates are rich and diverse, numbering more than fifty kinds, with the sun, the moon, mountains, sheep horns, and the tools of daily life and production all serving as sources of decorative motifs. He has also studied the applique embroidery techniques of such nomadic peoples as the Kazakh, Kirgiz, and Tajik, applying them to the making of Uyghur huazhan felt. In 2005, as a member of the Xinjiang exhibition delegation, he demonstrated the craft of huazhan felt-making at the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair. He has taken on ten apprentices in succession over the years, of whom two are still making huazhan felt today.
Honors & Recognition
In 2002, Yasheng Abudoureheman was honored with the Outstanding Artisan Award of the Hotan Prefecture.
