Shi Huaming
Lineage & School of Heritage
He is the fifth-generation transmitter of Xiushan Huadeng. He belongs to the lineage of the Zhaizhong Huadeng troupe and studied under the fourth-generation transmitters Shi Shengxian and Shi Weiguo.
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
He began studying Huadeng at the age of twelve, founded the Zhaizhong Huadeng troupe in 1957 and often performed with it. He inherited and developed the Huadeng dance art of his forebears, with a bright, flowing vocal style and graceful, supple and varied dance movements. He is familiar with the various percussion instruments of Huadeng, excels at playing the female roles, can write, direct and perform his own pieces, and also designs props, stage settings and costumes. He creatively transferred the two-person Huadeng duet form onto the eight-immortals table for performance; this form was afterwards called Gaotai Huadeng (elevated-platform Huadeng) and became established, and it is the most distinctive feature that sets Xiushan Huadeng apart from Huadeng elsewhere.
