He is the third-generation transmitter of Xiushan Huadeng, belonging to the lineage of the Xiaoping Village Huadeng troupe.

Male, of Tujia ethnicity, born in July 1957 in Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, Chongqing Municipality. In 1963 he took the renowned Huadeng artist Pan Guangbing as his teacher, learning the chou and dan roles, the sung melodies, the gong and the cymbals, and dancing Huadeng with the troupe. He appeared on stage in 1965. In 1987 he became a tune master and began to teach apprentices. He is not only able to perform, lead the singing, play the gong and cymbals and make Huadeng lanterns, and is familiar with all the percussion techniques of Huadeng, but has also devoted himself to studying and innovating Huadeng lyrics, tunes and percussion scores, and he excels in performing the Huadeng two-person duet and selected-act pieces. Over many years of performance he has summarized, distilled and elevated the dance vocabulary of Xiushan Huadeng, making its formerly rather free dance movements more standardized and graceful and laying the foundation for Huadeng to enter the professional stage. His representative works include The Peddler, Picking Tea, Six Songs on the Value of Responsibility, Tujia Baobaobao (Rocking the Baby) and Celebrating the Harvest.
