Lineage & School of Heritage
In 1977 Li Xiangting introduced her to the guqin; in 1978 she became a pupil of Wu Jinglue and also received guidance from Wu Wenguang.
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
In 1980 she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music, and after graduating she took up a post with the China National Traditional Orchestra. She served successively as secretary-general of the Beijing Guqin Research Association and as deputy director of the Guqin Professional Committee of the China Kunqu and Guqin Research Association. As a direct-line disciple of the Yushan Wu school, she has carried forward that school's repertoire, technique and artistic style. Through initiating the Chinese Elegant Music Ensemble and the Chinese Elegant Music concerts, she has contributed to the promotion of traditional musical culture. Her representative pieces include Ou Lu Wang Ji (The Gull and the Egret Forget Their Cunning) and Naluo Faqu (Naluo Dharma Melody); she has released the albums Li Sao (Encountering Sorrow) and Qing Xin Zhi Shuang (Fresh and Refreshing), and has recorded guqin pieces for the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Centre.
Honors & Recognition
Female, Han ethnic group, born in July 1956 and died in December 2015, a native of Beijing. She is a representative bearer of guqin art, a fourth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. In 1999 she received a performance award in the appraisal and exhibition of ensembles directly under central government departments marking the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. In 2007 the Ministry of Culture conferred on her the title of Advanced Individual in the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
