Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, of the Miao ethnic group, born in 1962, a native of Daguan, Yunnan. National representative bearer of Miao Lusheng Making Craftsmanship, a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. Wang Jiefeng was born into a family of lusheng makers and is the fifth-generation heir of the craft. His forebears were all well-known lusheng makers in the region, and their fame spread as far as Weining and Bijie in Guizhou and the Miao villages of northeastern Yunnan. The family was acclaimed as a "family of lusheng makers," and local people called Wang Jiefeng "Wang Lusheng." Wang Jiefeng is a master not only of making the lusheng, the free-reed mouth organ of the Miao people, but also of playing it. He has now established his own lusheng-making workshop, and more than twenty people from the wider community have come to study under him; the lusheng-making craft of Wang Jiefeng has already found successors to carry it forward.
