In 1958 she was admitted to the trainee class of the Beijing Xinzhonghua Hebei Bangzi Troupe, the predecessor of the Beijing Hebei Bangzi Troupe, where she studied under Li Yunqing and Li Guiyun and specialized in qingyi (virtuous female lead) and guimendan (young lady) roles.

Female, of Han ethnicity, born in January 1947 in Beijing. She is a National First-Class Actor and an expert receiving the special government allowance of the State Council. She later became a principal actress of the Beijing Hebei Bangzi Troupe. Her voice is round and sweet, with a broad range that moves freely between high and low registers, tempering strength with gentleness and distinguishing clearly between powerful and soft passages; her stage appearance is dignified and elegant, her bearing poised and unrestrained, and her characterizations vivid and expressive.
Honors & Recognition
Representative bearer of Hebei Bangzi, a fourth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. Her representative productions include The Butterfly Cup (Hudie Bei), Predestined at the Cabinet (Gui Zhong Yuan) and The Injustice to Dou E (Dou E Yuan). In 1984 she received the First Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, and in 2003 she received the twentieth Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award a second time, the “Erdu Mei”. In 1995 she was conferred the title of Outstanding Expert of the Ministry of Culture for the year 1994. Among the disciples she has trained are Gao Demin, Wang Hongling, Bai Xiaoling, Liu Zhixin, Jiang Linyan and Liu Yi, the last of whom works in Sichuan opera.
