男，汉族，1941年7月生，湖北省汉阳县人。
国家一级演员。
“三生”即中年生角，以文唱为主。
演唱激越高亢，酷似其师吴天保，且“青出于蓝而胜于蓝”，将“唱念做打”融于一体，声情并茂。
代表作《哭祖庙》一剧由中国唱片社录制向全国发行，1962年主演的《穆桂英智破天门阵》获武汉市中青年演员会演表演一等奖。
2009年应邀参加中央电视台大型戏曲文化专题片《长江戏话》摄制。
表演风格高亢、豪迈、大气、深情，被公认为“吴派”表演艺术继承人。
Honors & Recognition
第四批国家级非物质文化遗产项目汉剧代表性传承人。
后又培养多名传承人，有的已是国家二级演员，并在各类比赛中获奖。
