Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, Tibetan ethnicity, born in January 1940 in Tongren County, Qinghai Province. He studied Tibetan opera at a monastery from childhood; immersed in the region's rich Tibetan opera tradition, he studied the art systematically and in depth and became proficient in the folk techniques of Tibetan opera. Through decades of study and practice he revived several lost performance techniques of Huangnan Tibetan opera and enriched them, shaping the distinctive artistic style of Huangnan Tibetan opera, which won unanimous praise from experts, scholars, and figures in the art world. Through unremitting effort he successively collated and staged six of the Eight Great Tibetan Operas, including Drime Kunden (Zhimei Gengdeng), Drowa Sangmo (Zhuowa Sangmo), and Chokyi Norsang (Quji Nuosang), as well as such classic works as Ade Lamu, Songtsen Gampo (Songzain Gambo), and Ramana (Ranmana).
