Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, Han ethnicity, born in July 1947 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. A National Class-One Actor and an expert entitled to the special government allowance of the State Council. In the 1980s, his outstanding performances in The Rustic Tailor and the Western Lady and The Amorous Young Monk made him the first recipient of the China Drama Plum Blossom Award in the field of huaji opera. Since joining the Suzhou Huaji Opera Troupe, he has taken the leading role in dozens of full-length huaji productions, including One, Two, Three, Off We Go; The Track of Youth; Shaking Hands with Tomorrow, Smiling; Qian Dutiao Prays for Rain; and Mama of the Gu Family. His singing and recitation are crisp and clean, his acting technique is solid, and his stage exaggeration is well measured: he performs with passion and explosive energy, employs a rich body language, and has formed a distinctly cartoon-like style of performance.
