Lineage & School of Heritage

At thirteen he became a disciple of the veteran artist Li Cai and is the seventh-generation transmitter of the Qi family line of errenzhuan. In July 1955, on his master's recommendation, he entered the Lishu County Local Drama Troupe and became an actor in a state-run company.

Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, Han ethnicity, born in August 1940 in Lishu County, Jilin Province. A strong singer with a good stage appearance and fine stage presence, he has created deeply memorable portrayals of Zhang Tingxiu, Liang Ziyu, Bao Gong and others. His performance both inherits and innovates: building on such traditional feats as the double fans, double silk handkerchiefs, large clappers and hand jade pieces, he created distinctive specialties such as the flying clappers and Phoenix Returns to Its Nest, which have had a considerable influence on the handkerchief-throwing and double-fan skills seen on the errenzhuan stage today.

Honors & Recognition
