Born into a ceramic family, he learned the craft from his father from childhood, and in 1977 he spent three years studying portrait painting under the ceramic artists Zhang Wenchao and Liu Haihe.

Male, Han, born in August 1959 in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province. A national representative bearer of Jingdezhen hand-made porcelain technique, a fourth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. A master of Chinese arts and crafts and an expert receiving the special government allowance of the State Council. He studied at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Workers' University from 1981 to 1984 and at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute from 2005 to 2008. From 1976 he worked successively at the Jingdezhen Hongyi Porcelain Factory and the Jingdezhen Art Porcelain Factory. In 1988 he studied the techniques of famille-rose (fencai) and ink-colour porcelain painting under Lei Huolian, a renowned master of ink-colour painting with gold outlining. From 2004 he studied and researched famille-rose porcelain decoration under Zhang Songmao, a master of Chinese arts and crafts.
Honors & Recognition
He has distinctive skills in the use of brushes, oils and lines in famille-rose painting, and his works have won numerous awards. Among them, Shiba Luohan (The Eighteen Arhats) won the gold award at the Ninth China Arts and Crafts Hundred Flowers Award presented by the China Arts and Crafts Society; Gaoshi Guanhua Ping (Scholar Viewing a Painting) and others were collected by the National Museum of China; and his monographs include Jingdezhen Fencai Cihui Yishu (The Art of Jingdezhen Famille-Rose Porcelain Painting).
