Zhou Meihong
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, of Han ethnicity, born in 1957, a native of Jixi, Anhui. He is a national representative bearer of the Huizhou Ink Making Craftsmanship, a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project, and is a Huizhou folk craft artisan. Zhou Meihong came into contact with Huizhou ink from childhood and received direct instruction from his father, deeply grasping the true essence of the methods of ink making and constantly refining his craft. In 1979 he joined the Laohukaiwen Ink Factory to work in ink production. After the Huizhou Ink Research Institute was established in 1983, he began to study and inherit the Huizhou ink making craftsmanship at a theoretical level, striving to attain the criteria of ink making: light to lift, clear when ground, fragrant to smell, hard as jade, silent when ground, black as lacquer in a single stroke, and true through ten thousand years. In 1992, She inkstones and Huizhou ink produced under his direction were presented as gifts to the delegates attending the Cross-Strait Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference in Shanghai, receiving wide acclaim. In 1993, he led the formulation of industry standards for decorative and collectible inks, filling a gap in the standards for ink products in China. Representative works include the Li Tinggui brand super-lacquer soot ink, the Li Tinggui brand Huizhou ink, and ultra-fine oil-soot and pine-soot inks.
