Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Uyghur ethnicity, born in May 1954 in Xinhe County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. A representative bearer of the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage projects in ethnic musical instrument making craftsmanship (Uyghur musical instrument making craftsmanship). A third-generation transmitter of Uyghur musical instrument making craftsmanship. He has loved instrument making and playing since childhood. He has mastered every process, including chiselling, carving and engraving, for nearly twenty kinds of Uyghur instruments; his instruments use strictly selected materials and fine workmanship, with top-grade mulberry and apricot wood. While adhering to traditional handmade production, he also innovates boldly, actively improving such features as the colour of instruments with modern technology; his instruments are finely crafted and fine in timbre, sell well both within and beyond the autonomous region, and have earned him wide renown as the king of instruments. To date he has taken on more than seventy apprentices spread across Xinjiang, and under his leadership the number of households in his village engaged in instrument making has grown to more than one hundred and twenty.
