Male, Han ethnicity, born in September 1936 in Jingjiang, Jiangsu Province. National representative bearer of Mounting and Restoration Craftsmanship (Suzhou Painting and Calligraphy Mounting and Restoration Craftsmanship), a fourth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He has long been engaged in the art of Suzhou mounting and in the restoration of ancient and old paintings and calligraphy. He is skilled at conceiving mounting formats in keeping with the stylistic characteristics of a work, and his technique is practiced and assured; he is especially accomplished in the restoration and mounting of ancient and old paintings and calligraphy. For paper- and silk-cored paintings that are worn, soiled, mildewed, or damaged by insects, he is able to restore them to their original condition in accordance with the principle of restoring the old as the old. He has successively restored ancient paintings and calligraphy for museums in Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Changsha, Nantong, and other places. In 1992 he was invited to the United States to give lectures, which were well received. In 2008 he was specially engaged by the Suzhou Museum as a research fellow in Suzhou mounting, with responsibility for training talent in the restoration of ancient paintings and calligraphy and for transmitting Suzhou mounting techniques.
