Lineage & School of Heritage
From childhood he studied Zhang-style Hui bone-setting therapy under his father Zhang Chengren, the second-generation transmitter of the therapy, and received his true transmission. He has worked in Hui bone-setting for more than fifty years. Grounded in Hui and Chinese medical theory, distinguished by the family's hereditary Hui bone-setting methods, drawing widely on the finest of the various schools of Chinese bone-setting and combining them with modern medical science and technology, he has through repeated practice and reflection shaped the distinctive Zhang-style Hui therapy for treating injuries and setting bones, and he has particularly rich clinical experience in bone and joint injuries and in severe and intractable cases in traumatology.

Honors & Recognition
He is a national representative bearer of Hui Medicine, a fourth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project, in respect of Zhang-style Hui bone-setting therapy. He is the third-generation transmitter of Zhang-style Hui bone-setting therapy and a recipient of the second China Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer Transmission Award of the Chinese Academy of Arts, the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Centre. In recognition of his outstanding work in ethnic minority medicine, he has been named an advanced individual in national ethnic minority medical work by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and an advanced individual in national intangible cultural heritage protection work by the Ministry of Culture, among other honours.
