Male, Han ethnicity, born in January 1943, a native of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. A researcher of the Budai Monk legend. From 1981 he began collecting and arranging sixty-nine legends of the Budai Monk.
Honors & Recognition
National representative bearer of the Budaiheshang Legend, a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He was born in the birthplace of the legendary Budai Monk, heard his legends from childhood, and later received a teacher-training education; in the course of protecting the Fenghua Changting Zhang Family Genealogy he came to a fuller understanding of the detailed records in the genealogy concerning the Budai Monk's appearance in the world, his upbringing, his entry into monastic life, his death, and the locations of the pagoda where his bones were buried and of the stele forest. Besides training his three sons as bearers of the telling of the Budai Monk legend, he has gone to the Laochangmen and the activity rooms of the senior citizens' association, where elderly people often gather, to the Yuelin Temple where the Budai Monk took his vows, and to nearby schools, to spread the Budai Monk legend, and has established a transmission base at the village committee, furnished with books, magazines, pictures and printed materials on Maitreya culture and the Budai Monk for people to read and study.
