Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, of Han ethnicity, born in November 1958 in Mengzhou City, Henan Province. He has a comprehensive mastery of fire dragon construction and of its performance routines; in making the fire-breathing material he can judge precisely the steeping time for the yougudu wick, so that when it is inserted into the dragon's body and burned during the dance the flame lasts long and burns brightly. In performance he changes movements swiftly in response to the drumbeat and works in close coordination with the other dancers, achieving a perfect union of performer, fire and dragon. Over the years, in order to safeguard and transmit the fire dragon dance, he has gathered and collated more than one hundred thousand characters of historical and documentary material together with photographs and video, and has organized teams to take part in large folk performances at national, provincial and municipal level, to an enthusiastic public response.
