Liu Weixiang
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, of Han ethnicity, born in September 1977 in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. From the age of twelve he trained in the dragon's tail, and at seventeen he formally took the veteran dragon dancer Wang Zili as his master in order to learn the dragon's head. After more than ten years of honing his craft he performs such traditional feats as knocking, sweeping, raising, supporting, shaking and balancing the head with greater refinement, surprise and daring. He has inherited and developed the feat of holding with the mouth and supporting with the teeth, in which he supports a towering dragon head weighing dozens of jin with his teeth alone while kneeling and sliding forward on the ground, an accomplishment praised as a unique feat in the world of dragon dancing. He has many times led high dragon performers in shows in China and abroad. The high dragon he performs is technically superb and grand in momentum, and has won much praise from audiences.
