Lineage & School of Heritage

At the age of six he learned boxing, saber and staff techniques from the elders of his village, and at fifteen he joined the village Yuejia lion dance team, formally becoming a disciple of Liu Songlin.

Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

His skills combine hardness and softness, with free-flowing breathing and powerful control in release and withdrawal; his performance of the Yuejia Men boxing in particular brings out the characteristics of the hard-school boxing style. In December 1972 he took the lead in forming the Yushao Yuejia lion team, which grew to twelve members. He afterwards taught Yuejia martial arts to the young people of the village; seventy-six people took part in the transmission activities, of whom nearly twenty reached a relatively high level and more than fifty became proficient in Yuejia boxing. In 2012 the project was engaged to take up residence in the Mingyue Mountain national AAAA scenic area, and a Fengcheng Yuejia lion transmission and training base was established at the same time. In 2014 he formed a youth Yuejia lion team and carried out systematic, planned activities to bring the intangible cultural heritage into schools.
