Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

He was born in October 1962 into a Han family in Langxi County, Anhui Province. In his early teens he studied Tiao Wu Chang (Dance of the Five Wild Spirits) under his uncle Zhou Jikui, becoming thoroughly familiar with all the roles of the dance and especially skilled in its smooth and graceful monk's steps. To date he has taken part in more than three hundred performances, which have repeatedly won high praise. He has long devoted himself to performing Tiao Wu Chang, to collecting and organizing its documentation and to training successors, and has so far trained nine bearers of the tradition. He has consistently carried out cultural exchange activities and has organized teams to take part in large-scale folk-custom performances.

Honors & Recognition

He is a national representative bearer of Nuo Dance (Tiao Wu Chang), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project.
