Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, Bai, born in April 1935, a native of Yunlong County, Yunnan Province. From childhood he loved the Bai folk art of Erzige performance, and he has been engaged in Erzige performance and transmission for more than sixty years. At the age of 15 he formally became a disciple of the local folk artist Yin Guochen, and at 20 he began to organize Erzige performances. He is thoroughly versed in the techniques and procedures of Erzige performance and is able to make performance props and costumes; together with his cheerful and lively disposition and his humorous performances, this has made him an important performer and organizer of Erzige in the locality. He often leads performance teams to perform Erzige for the villagers free of charge, praying for peace. For many years he has devoted himself to collecting and organizing Erzige materials and has done his utmost to train disciples and pass on his art. The performers he has trained, including Li Weizhi, Yang Xiaojun, Yin Huiliang, Li Jiangang and Yang Jirong, have become the backbone of Erzige transmission.
