Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Han ethnicity, born in April 1963, a native of Jieyang, Guangdong Province. He studied under the renowned Chaoju artist Zheng Caiyue, learning the laosheng (old male) performance skills of Chaoju; he fully inherited Zheng Caiyue's singing art and performing techniques and went on to explore and practise his art continuously, innovating performance modes and techniques, forming a performance style of his own and enriching the expressive forms of Chaoju. His voice is high and resonant, clear and mellow; he sings the character and the feeling, attaching importance to timbre and to vocal rhyme, with a plain rhythm like flowing clouds and running water and a natural beauty that embraces all things.
