Wang Xinrong
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
A woman of Han ethnicity, she was born in May 1960 in Wu'an County, Hebei Province. In 1978 she entered the Handan Pingdiao-Luozi Troupe, where she studied the huadan (young female) role under Li Xiuqi, whose stage name was Xiaogangpao (Little Cannon), and Huang Peisheng, whose stage name was Shuixianhua (Narcissus); she also took up the guimendan (gentle maiden) and qingyi (virtuous matron) roles. In 1979 she became a disciple of Li Kuiyuan, a renowned Pingdiao-Luozi performing artist, and trained to a solid command of the four basic skills of singing, recitation, acting and acrobatic fighting. Her pretty stage appearance, graceful movements, sweet and mellow voice and accomplished technique allowed her to stand out in opera performance and to join the ranks of established artists. While steadily inheriting the art of Pingdiao-Luozi she has also innovated with flexibility. Since 1984 she has held numerous successful Pingdiao-Luozi training classes and competitions, established several transmission bases for the genre, and edited and published related materials and video discs, rescuing and organizing a substantial body of documentation.
