1971年学艺，攻旦行，师从张漪、张巧珍等，集“沈（云陔）”“关（啸彬）”两派艺术于一身，后考入中国戏曲学院表演系，得京昆名家亲授，形成了表演大气端庄、细腻稳健，声腔韵味醇厚、委婉雅致的艺术风格。

国家一级演员，享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家。
代表剧目《蝴蝶杯》《珍珠塔》《双玉蝉》等久演不衰。

Honors & Recognition
第五批国家级非物质文化遗产项目楚剧代表性传承人。
2003年因主演《赶会》《双玉蝉》《逼休》获第二十届中国戏剧梅花奖，2004年因主演《娘娘千岁》获文化部第十一届文华表演奖。
