A man of Han ethnicity, he was born in August 1962 in Fengyang County, Anhui Province. He is a National First-Class Actor. His portrayals of Old Wang in Old Wang Sells Melons and of the village head in Returning the Ox are regarded as classics, and he has won awards repeatedly within and beyond the province.
