Female, of Han ethnicity, born in November 1964 in Zibo City, Shandong Province. She is a National First-Class Actor and an expert entitled to the special government allowance of the State Council. Fond of opera from childhood, she was admitted in 1979 to the Zibo City Wuyin Opera Troupe, where she specialized in the qingyi and huadan female role types. In 1985 she became a pupil of Deng Hongshan, the leading figure of Wuyin opera, and later received personal instruction from his son Deng Jili. She studied and performed more than a dozen traditional plays, including Wang Xiao Gan Jiao (Wang Xiao Drives the Donkey), Wang Erjie Si Fu (Second Sister Wang Longs for Her Husband) and Guai Mozi (Turning the Millstone). She has a handsome stage appearance and a smooth, rounded voice; her acting is finely detailed, and the characters she creates are vivid and convincing. She has starred in a series of outstanding traditional plays and modern works, among them Zimei Yi Jia (Sisters Exchange Their Bridegrooms), Huan Hun Ji (The Soul-Swapping Tale), Qiangtou Ji (The Wall-Top Tale) and Huilong Zhuan (The Return of the Dragon), and is much beloved by audiences. As artistic director of the Zibo City Wuyin Opera Theatre, she consciously bears the responsibility of transmitting Wuyin opera in the present era.
Honors & Recognition
She is a national representative bearer of Wuyin Opera, a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. She has received the China Drama Plum Blossom Award, the Ministry of Culture Wenhua Performance Award and the Shanghai Magnolia Award for Theatrical Performing Arts, as well as the title of Advanced Individual in National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection.
