Wang Yonglan
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Female, Han ethnicity, born in November 1963 in Fuyang City, Anhui Province. A national first-class actor. In 1978 she was admitted to the Fuyang City Bangzi Troupe and studied Huaibei Bangzi opera under the celebrated bangzi performers Guan Dabao, Guo Jinfeng and Zheng Lianxin, specializing in guimen dan (boudoir female roles) while also training in huadan, laodan and qingyi. While inheriting the performance conventions and vocal techniques of Huaibei Bangzi, she strengthened her own artistic cultivation by studying and absorbing the merits of other art forms, integrating dance organically with traditional performance conventions. In her vocal technique she preserved the high-pitched, plain-spoken qualities of Huaibei Bangzi while adding subtle and delicate elements to the flung and drawn-out phrases, gradually forming an artistic style of her own. She is currently deputy head of the Fuyang City Bangzi Troupe.
