Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Han ethnicity, born in 1945 in Zibo, Shandong. From childhood he learned Liaozhai liqu (the popular tunes of Liaozhai) from his forebears and mastered its singing techniques; he is an important transmitter of Liaozhai liqu within his family. Inheriting the technical characteristics of his forebears, he sings in a melodious, lingering, precise and delicate style, with sincere feeling and a plain vocal method, full of strong local flavour. His singing unites words and music and successfully conveys the inner meaning of Pu Songling's original writings. He has organised elderly singers of liqu to provide living material for television stations and for visiting experts and scholars from all over the country, has taken part in public activities, and has thrown himself actively into the work of recovering and transmitting Liaozhai liqu.
