出身于曲艺世家，父亲为著名西河大鼓艺人马连登。
师从蒋月泉、胡宝钧、石慧儒、白奉霖、谢芮芝等名家学习单弦牌子曲。

国家一级演员，享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家。
1980年拜苏州评弹艺术家蒋月泉为师，学习苏州评弹。
嗓音圆润宽厚，音色清脆洪亮，吐字清晰有力，唱腔婉转动听。
代表曲目有《一盆饭》《打箩筐》《金山寺》《鞭打芦花》《宝玉探病》等。
弟子有刘秀梅、鲁菊苹、崔伟丽、希婉英等。

女，汉族，1936年3月生，2021年2月去世，天津市人。
第五批国家级非物质文化遗产项目单弦牌子曲（含岔曲）代表性传承人。
2012年获中国文学艺术界联合会、中国曲艺家协会颁发的第七届中国曲艺牡丹奖终身成就奖。
