Male, Han ethnicity, born in December 1956 in Tuanfeng County, Hubei Province. He is a National First-Class Actor. In 1975 he was specially recruited into the Yingcheng County Revolutionary Cultural Work Team and formally took the stage to sing Hubei dagu. In 1980 he was admitted to the Hubei Provincial Quyi Troupe. Later, on the strong recommendation of the quyi masters Xu Guohua and Jiang Jingsheng, he became a disciple of Chen Qianwen and learned to perform medium-length and full-length traditional dagu, remaining active on the Hubei quyi stage throughout. His representative works include Gao Zhuang (The Lawsuit), Yi Pan Dong Gua (A Plate of Winter Melon), Ren Min Tiao Jie Yuan (The People's Mediator), Si Cai Yi Tang (Four Dishes and a Soup) and San Xu Bai Shou (Three Sons-in-Law Offer Birthday Greetings).
Honors & Recognition
He is a national representative bearer of Hubei dagu, a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. In 2009 the China Quyi Artists Association conferred on him the title of a national outstanding young and middle-aged quyi artist of the sixty years of quyi in New China. For many years he has devoted himself to performing and collating Hubei dagu and to training successors, and the free Hubei dagu classes he has run have trained a large number of Hubei dagu talents.
