From the age of seven he learned thangka painting with his father, Jiumai.

Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Born in October 1967 in Xiahe County, Gansu Province, he is of Tibetan ethnicity. His works have a strong regional character, and he is especially accomplished in colouring, shading, outlining and laying on colour. He takes an active part in art exhibitions and academic exchanges, and is a representative figure with considerable social influence in the Gannan region.

Honors & Recognition

He is a national representative bearer of Tibetan Thangka (Gannan Tibetan Thangka), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. His work The Three Manjushri Buddhas, a red thangka, won first prize at the exhibition and evaluation of the Fifth China Chengdu International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and the Sichuan Provincial People's Government; Medicine Buddha's Pure Land (Yaoshi Fo Jile Shijie) won the gold award at the Seventh China (Zhejiang) Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo, hosted by the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Centre, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government; and Shakyamuni Buddha, a black thangka, won first prize at the Tongwei Calligraphy and Painting Culture and Art Festival of the Fifth Dunhuang Silk Road International Tourism Festival.
