Lineage & School of Heritage

After graduating from middle school in 1987, he studied bamboo and wood carving under Zhang Dashun, Wu Huiyou, Wang Jinsheng and others.

Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, Han ethnicity, born in February 1971 in Huizhou District, Huangshan, Anhui Province. Senior arts and crafts master. Through years of study and practice his bamboo carving skills have grown increasingly refined; he excels in high relief, has revived the seven-layer high-relief carving technique of mid-Qing bamboo carving, and has successfully overcome the technical difficulty of twelve-layer high relief, skillfully combining relief, deep relief, openwork, round carving and line engraving. His works are executed with a steady knife and vigorous strokes, with ingenious conceptions, wide-ranging subjects and a plain, elegant quality. Representative works include the brush pot Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove, the screen Journey of Huizhou Merchants and the bamboo-root carving Eighteen Arhats. He has gathered and collated materials on Huizhou bamboo carving, founded the Huizhou School Carving Museum, and taken more than sixty apprentices.
