Lineage & School of Heritage

After graduating from senior middle school in the early 1980s he learned the craft of stone carving under his father's guidance.

Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, of the Han ethnic group, born in November 1962 in Fuping County, Shaanxi Province. Born in a hometown of stone carving, he was influenced by his family from childhood and came to love the art of stone carving. He has a comprehensive command of the stone carving methods of chiselling, grinding, engraving, polishing and modelling, and a thorough mastery of the carving formulae for various purposes; he is especially skilled in carving stelae, decorated archways, stone lions and tombs, and in the technique of lettering, and he has also applied stone carving to urban sculpture, gardens and historic buildings. His works are grand and imposing in spirit, possessing the charm of the Han and Tang dynasties. Setting aside the family notion that craft should not be passed outside, he is committed to the social transmission of the craft: he recruits young people widely and has personally trained more than twenty apprentices, easing the crisis of a gap in talent.
