Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Mu Binglin, a man of Bai ethnicity, was born in December 1970 in Heqing County, Yunnan Province. He is a national representative bearer of silver ornament forging craftsmanship (Heqing silverwork forging), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He is a senior arts and crafts artist. Over more than thirty years he has remained modest and eager to learn, receiving instruction from veteran craftsmen including Cun Shukang, Hong Jinguo, Duan Yanming and Luorong Ani; gifted with a ready understanding, he rose from a small-furnace tinker of the zou yifang, or journeying to distant parts, tradition to become a celebrated maker of silverwork, excelling especially in chasing and gilding. His works have won national awards on many occasions; three sets comprising sixteen pieces, among them a silver-gilt butter-tea pot, a purple-copper gilt ritual barley box and a pure-silver gilt ritual implement, have been collected by the Yunnan Provincial Museum.
