Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, of Han ethnicity, born in July 1968 in Xianyou County, Fujian Province. A representative bearer of furniture making craftsmanship (Xianyou classical furniture making craftsmanship), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He is a technician of Xianyou classical furniture making. He was born into a family of woodcarving craftsmen. After graduating from junior middle school in 1983 he learned woodcarving from his father. He has inherited and carried forward the distinctive qingshui zhizong, or pure-water lineage, craft characteristics of Xianzuo furniture; the furniture he makes pursues rigorous form, refined decoration, beautiful and solid materials and plain yet delicate workmanship, striving to embody the artistic principles and aesthetic pursuits of the ancients, who revered nature, took nature as their model and sought an archaic, dignified simplicity.

Honors & Recognition

At the same time he pays close attention to cultivating young arts and crafts talent, taking on apprentices and teaching them the craft, and has trained more than one hundred key carving talents.
