Tegexidouleng
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, of Mongolian ethnicity, born in 1935 in Horqin Left Rear Banner, Inner Mongolia. He made his living by farming. Born into a family of folk artists, he lost his sight to illness in childhood; he began learning to play the sihu at the age of seven and has remained active on the folk performance stage ever since. While steadily improving his own musical attainments, he has persisted in taking on disciples and passing on his art. The pieces he performs consist mainly of traditional Mongolian court music, such as the ancient melodies Ba Yin (Eight Tones) and De Sheng Ling (The Victory Command), together with various uliger and holboo tunes and numerous Mongolian folk melodies. His playing is accurate and delicate in emotional expression, and his bowing and fingering combine the traditional techniques of folk practice with a command of the various modern modes of sihu expression.
