Male, of Han ethnicity, born in June 1968 in Shengzhou City, Zhejiang Province. He is a national representative bearer of Woodblock Waterprint Technique (muban shuiyin), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He is a woodblock waterprint technician. In 1990 he entered the waterprint workshop of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Chen Pinchao and Zhang Gengyuan and systematically learned the woodblock waterprint technique, acquiring comprehensive skills and deep mastery. He has long carried out research on traditional techniques and has collected related documents and physical objects. In 2001 he fully revived the near-lost Shizhuzhai woodblock waterprint technique, established the Hangzhou Shizhuzhai Art Museum and served as its concurrent director, restored and created numerous fine woodblock waterprint works, taught apprentices, and promoted the introduction of the technique into schools. In recent years he has held exhibitions at the National Art Museum of China, the National Library of China, the Zhejiang Art Museum, the Art Museum of the China Academy of Art and the Art Museum of Sichuan University, and has presented woodblock waterprint demonstrations and lectures at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland; the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris; the Asian Arts Museum in France; the British Library and the University of Oxford, Nottingham Trent University, the Prince's School of Traditional Arts of the Prince's Foundation, and the Asia House Gallery in the United Kingdom; the Huntington Library in Los Angeles, the United States; and the China Cultural Centers in Berlin, Germany and Paris, France, disseminating the Chinese woodblock waterprint technique. The Shizhuzhai Wenxian Jicheng (Compendium of Shizhuzhai Documents), for which he served as chief editor, is held in the National Library of China.
