Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, Han ethnicity, born in July 1960 in Chongqing Municipality. A national representative bearer of Xiabu Weaving Craftsmanship, a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. His xiabu weaving skills are family-transmitted. In 1970 he began learning to weave xiabu from his grandfather Li Liangzheng and accumulated rich experience in the craft. He has become thoroughly proficient in the entire xiabu weaving process and can weave xiabu of various specifications. He excels at warp stretching and starch brushing and is especially skilled at weaving fine xiabu; the cloth he weaves is flat and closely woven, and after bleaching it takes on a smooth, bright luster. He has explored a cotton-linen mixed weaving technique that integrates traditional weaving with ramie raw material, and has also used dried banana fiber for weaving.
