Male, Dai ethnicity, born in April 1941, a native of Lincang, Yunnan Province. He is a national representative bearer of National Musical Instrument Making Techniques (Dai Elephant-Foot Drum Making Techniques), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He is a technician in the making of Dai elephant-foot drums. A lover of traditional instruments since childhood, at 37 he learned to make elephant-foot drums under his master Feng Chuanjin, and he also went to Mengding in the Dai region for thorough and in-depth study of the craft; he is the third-generation inheritor of the local Dai elephant-foot drum making technique. In forty years of practice he has mastered the entire Dai elephant-foot drum making technique, attaining particular distinction in hollowing and polishing the interior of the drum, chiseling and polishing the exterior, carving auspicious figures, mounting the drumhead, painted decoration and plaiting. The drums he makes are handsome, dignified and practical, with a wide range and pure, deep volume and timbre, and great durability; they are deeply loved by the Dai people, who honor him as the "Drum King". He is devoted to the transmission, innovation and development of elephant-foot drum making and actively teaches apprentices.
