Female, Han ethnicity, born in July 1957, a native of Jishan County, Shanxi Province. She is a national representative bearer of Lacquerware Decoration Techniques (Jishan Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Lacquerware Decoration Techniques), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. She is a senior arts and crafts artist. Born into a farming family, at 20 she entered the mother-of-pearl workshop of the Jishan Arts and Crafts Factory as an apprentice, learning mother-of-pearl lacquerware making from Wang Manshui and Hou Xinnian. In more than forty years of practice she has overcome the difficulty that a whole sheet of mother-of-pearl cannot be bent on a curved vessel, and has innovated patterns imitating Song dynasty Ge ware glaze; she has developed a raw lacquer body that is shaped entirely by hand, formed in a single operation and seamless throughout, and has created works such as lacquer inlaid with metal calligraphy, continually enriching and perfecting lacquer decoration techniques. Her works are held in several provincial art museums and are widely praised by her peers. She founded the Jishan Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Lacquerware Research Center and, in cooperation with the Jishan County Vocational Middle School, opened a training course in mother-of-pearl lacquerware making, cultivating many successors for the craft.
