Male, Han Chinese, born in March 1958 in Quannan County, Jiangxi Province. He is a national representative bearer of Green Tea Processing Craftsmanship (Gannan Hakka Lei Cha Processing Craftsmanship), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He is a technician in Gannan Hakka lei cha (pounded tea) processing. Raised in Hakka culture, he learned lei cha making from his parents as a child. Since his appointment as director of the cultural station of Longyuanba Township in 1996, he has actively carried out research on and transmission of Gannan Hakka lei cha processing. Drawing on pharmacological knowledge, he adds different ingredients to the pounded tea according to the physical condition of the drinker in order to regulate the body. In spring and summer, when the weather is damp and hot, he uses houttuynia and mugwort to prevent heatstroke and dispel dampness; in autumn, when the air is dry, he chooses chrysanthemum and honeysuckle to nourish and moisten the lungs; in the cold of winter he adds cassia bark and pepper to drive out the chill and keep the body warm. The tea he pounds is fine, smooth and refreshing, and is much appreciated by local people. He takes an active part in transmitting and promoting the craft: he has passed it on to his children and regularly conducts lei cha making training in schools and communities.
