Ye Zhuqing
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Han ethnic group, born in August 1935 in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province. National representative bearer of Chaozhou Caici Firing Craftsmanship, a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. He is a Chaozhou painted porcelain firing technician. He has worked in Chaozhou painted porcelain art since the age of 9, for more than seventy years to date, and has built up substantial experience in both ceramic design and production technique. In particular, in 1976 he pioneered overglaze piled-gold colour decoration, which set a new trend in Chaozhou painted porcelain. His works take nature and lyricism as their keynote and are depicted in the form of gongbi (meticulous) xincai painting; the colouring is meticulously nuanced and the brushwork elegant and free, with attention to the interplay of solid and void, so that the modelling and decoration are well spaced and well weighted, and rich in three-dimensionality.
Honors & Recognition
He has long taken charge of training key technical personnel for Chaozhou painted porcelain and has trained a large number of technicians over the years.
