Taogao
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
A woman of Mongol ethnicity, she was born in May 1963 in Zhenglan Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. She is a national representative bearer of dairy product making craftsmanship (Chagan Ide), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. She is a technician of dairy product making. She came from a family long established in making Chagan Ide; her maternal grandmother Daolijinsu and her mother Hala were both Chagan Ide makers renowned throughout the locality. Taogao inherited the Chagan Ide making techniques accumulated over several generations of her forebears and, drawing on her own practical experience, continually sought instruction from and exchanged ideas with her mother, so that her Chagan Ide making both preserved the traditional, authentic flavour and became better suited to the diet of contemporary people; her dairy foods enjoy a fine reputation locally. Zealous in transmission, she has taught Chagan Ide making techniques to more than ten local bearers, including Taogesi and Gaowa.
